Mission Statement

A charity 501(c)3  which was founded in 1996 for the purpose of humane education, promoting spay and neuter, pet rescue, and adoption of healthy, social pets to suitable families.

What We Do

We have fulfilled our goals by the rescue of dogs and cats that were strays, owner given up and from shelters. We vet these pets completely including testing, altering, shots, and micro-chipping. We find them FOREVER HOMES  through showings at PetSmart®, Petco® and  Petfinder.

We bring educational programs to schools and communities, stressing spay/neuter. All of our work is done using foster homes and volunteers.

For a more hands on and frequent  way to learn and promote humane care of  cats and dogs, check out the following activities:

  • Foster a pet cat or dog. PAWs provides all the materials, you provide the love.
  • Hugs and Housekeeping Care for cats and kittens at a Petco cataminium in Annapolis, LaPlata, or Prince Frederick. Hours and days vary by store. The time commitment is 30 min- 1 ½ hours.
  • Help at adoption events, usually weekends. Days and hours vary, but events are usually 3-6 hours. Many events are at Petco® and Petsmart® stores.
  • Help at community events like Hogs for Dogs, Tiki Bar Family Pet Day, Christmas Walk in Solomons, Vera’s Annual Crab Feast, and Photos with Santa.
  • Pet Therapy at nursing homes.
  • PAWS has Eagle Scout and Gold and Silver award projects available.

Call 410-326-1616 and tell us your talents and availability and we’ll find match you to an activity!

PAWS is pleased to place healthy, happy pets into stable forever homes!

All PAWS pets are:

  • Spayed/neutered
  • Up-to-date on shots
  • Parasite free
  • Tested negative for:
  • Cats: FIV & FeLV
  • Dogs: Heartworm, Lyme Disease, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, E. Canis
  • Micro-chipped with free registration
  • Collared or harnessed with an ID
  • Wearing Frontline® and dogs are also on Heartguard

A new owner is expected to make a commitment for the life of the pet. For safety, cats are to be inside only and not declawed for humane reasons (PAWS volunteers can advise how to keep a cat clawing only approved items). Only some dogs require fenced yards. All counties have dog parks and our dogs love leash walks some are even good joggers!

PAWS adoptable pets are displayed on Petfinder.  We also have adoption teams show adoptable pets at community events as well as Petco® and PetSmart® stores.  Please call 410-326-1616 for the upcoming schedule.
